Goodall City Library      Internet Usage Rules  

The Goodall City Library offers access to computers and the Internet to all Library patrons.

Library staff will assist whenever possible to help patrons find the information which they are seeking and will provide training on the computer and Internet when time allows.

The Internet is a global network of computers and networks over which the Library has no control. Therefore, the Library makes no warranties or representations of any nature, expressed or implied, regarding the veracity or accuracy of any message or information found on the Internet; the Library simply offers the Internet to the public for general use.

In order to maintain an orderly system of access which provides all patrons an equal and fair opportunity to use library computers for Internet access, the following rules have been adopted by the Library Board.

Patrons desiring to access the Internet must read these rules and agree to follow them.

Patrons, age 3 and older, may have access to the computers and Internet.

Parents of minor children desiring Internet access must also read and sign the rules. Please note that parents must actually come to the Library to sign the rules, the Library cannot accept a form brought from home by the minor child.

1. Users should have and show a valid Library card. Out of county residents wishing to access Internet only will be given a temporary card at no cost.

2. Users must check in at the front desk before using a computer. Time limited to one hour any number of times per week, or additional time allowed at the discretion of the library staff.

3. Users may use their own floppy disks or CD’s providing they have the staff scan the disks or CD’s for viruses.

4. Users shall not use the System in any manner which violates federal, state, county or city law.

5. Users shall not place any software on the computer which may damage or destroy other member’s information or any portion of the Internet system itself.

6. Users shall not place copyrighted material, including programs, graphics, sounds and text, on the Internet unless permission is obtained from the author, nor shall users download and use copyrighted material unless permission is obtained from the creator.

7. Users shall not access information which is obscene, profane, or sexually explicit. Users shall not place any information of such nature on the Internet.

8. Users shall not vandalize or damage any electronic communications or computing equipment owned by the Library.

9. The Library reserves the right to discontinue access to the Internet or computer at any time.

10. Illegal activities will be reported to the appropriate authorities.

The following shall apply to any patron who violates any of the rules and regulations or engages in other inappropriate use of the Internet. The Library Board will determine what constitutes inappropriate use and their decision shall be final.

First Offense: Suspension of computer and/or Internet privileges for a period of one month.

Second Offense: Suspension of computer and/or Internet privileges for a period of six months.

Third Offense:    Permanent loss of Internet / computer privileges.
